Each Middle School student takes one trimester of general music each year. In these classes, students learn music theory and history, as well as composing their own original pieces. Sixth-graders take a year of a performing group as well, choosing either chorus, band or string ensemble. While not required to participate, seventh- and eighth-graders are encouraged to continue with the performing groups. Students who enjoy singing and playing an instrument aren’t limited to choosing one or the other, but instead can sign up for chorus and band or orchestra.
