The purpose of the LCDS Robotics Program is to develop students' interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) through designing, building and testing robots for competitions and other STEM projects.
Robotics competitions such as FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge foster students' interest in STEM, develop team-building and leadership capabilities, as well as a community of excited learners. FIRST promotes "gracious professionalism," where teams compete against each other yet at the same time help each other with problems.
The LCDS Robotics Program spans all three divisions of the school, through instruction both during the day and after school. It provides an opportunity for all students, especially those with an inclination toward technology, to thrive. Summer workshops are also offered. We hope to inspire students who never thought they could do this kind of work, and to encourage students to explore career opportunities in this field.
