Middle / Upper School Library

The Middle and Upper School library has a collection of more than 11,000 items. These include young adult and adult fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, DVDs and magazines, in addition to dozens of e-books and digital databases.

Lancaster Country Day's library is a learning hub: Students visit to collaborate on projects; teachers use the space for research work with the librarians; and each month the library hosts special activities to enrich the school.

The library also hosts book clubs each month and additional special programs every other month (Fandom Fridays, Books & Breakfast, and the Harry Potter Alliance club, for example). In addition, the library proudly hosts two author visits a year. Recent guests include A.S. King, Jared Reck, Newbery winner Lauren Wolk via Skype, and Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely at Millersville University.

Lower School Library

The primary objective of the Lancaster Country Day Lower School library is to enrich, support and implement the educational program of the Lower School. The Lower School library contains a centralized collection for Lower School faculty and students.

The collection reflects curriculum goals and provides for a wide range of abilities, with consideration for diversity of appeal and different points of view. The Lower School library adheres to an information literacy curriculum which follows a scope and sequence specific to each grade level. It is the intent of the Lower School librarian to infuse a love of reading in each child. Books are carefully selected with regard to class work, as well as for pure enjoyment.
