Affording LCDS

Tuition & Value

We understand that investing in a Lancaster Country Day education is a major commitment. Parents can usually anticipate a modest annual increase based upon the Consumer Price Index, plus approximately 2-4 percent, as our school’s expenses include rising costs in facilities upgrades and maintenance, faculty professional development, classroom technology and curriculum improvements. Our highest goal is to provide a peerless college-preparatory education, with exceptional teachers engaging and inspiring a student body of focused, talented and dedicated learners. We make every effort to provide this education in a fiscally responsible way that eschews gratuitous expenses and helps ensure our stability as an institution. Our tuition costs reflect our effort to balance affordability without sacrificing the the caliber of our faculty and facilities and the quality of programming that our students receive.

While tuition funds the majority of the cost of providing an LCDS education, it doesn’t cover the full breadth of the experience our students enjoy. In addition to tuition, we are grateful for the generous support we receive from annual giving to our Excellence Fund, which helps offset tuition increases.

Tuition Assistance

Lancaster Country Day is committed to attracting a diverse, talented and dynamic student body. Our tuition assistance program is intended to help academically qualified students who could not otherwise afford to attend. Tuition assistance is awarded and reviewed annually, and is based on demonstrated financial need. That is, the difference between a family’s means and the school’s tuition. This approach allows us to enroll a diverse and spirited student body. Lancaster Country Day follows the guidelines of School and Student Services by The National Association of Independent Schools (SSS by NAIS), a comprehensive financial aid management service devoted to helping schools help families. All families who feel they may qualify are encouraged to apply for assistance by filing an application with SSS and submitting copies of previous years' income tax returns. This information helps the committee make fair and objective decisions.

LCDS is committed to helping families with demonstrated need, however, we are limited in our ability to offer financial aid to every family that qualifies. Many more students apply for assistance than we are able to assist. While we are committed to meeting the needs of families through tuition assistance, families must also demonstrate a commitment to making lifestyle accommodations if requesting support from the school. Families should budget in a way that demonstrates that they are making tuition a financial priority. When reviewing need-based aid applications, the committee will consider a variety of factors, including a family’s financial choices in regards to discretionary income.
Lancaster Country Day School is a preschool-12th grade, coed college preparatory school with students from Lancaster, Hershey, York and Reading.
