None of the lockers here at LCDS have locks – or even doors! – on them. They’re one of the most surprising elements of our community to first-time visitors to LCDS, and one of the least surprising to anyone who knows the school. It’s hard to think of a more vivid symbol of the spirit of trust and respect intrinsic to LCDS than our open lockers.

Our advisory programs in Middle and Upper School connect students to one another and to our exceptional faculty. In Middle School, students have a quick check in with their advisor every day. In Upper School, advisory groups are a mix of students in grades 9-12, helping to foster relationships across the academic division.

As our old school bell rings, and parents, faculty, and staff line the walkways to cheer, our students process around campus on the first day of school to start the new year. From our smallest to our tallest, all of our students enjoy this chance to greet one another in celebration of a fresh start.

A mallard mother began laying her eggs in our school’s courtyard garden more than 15 years ago. Many springtimes since, her ducklings hatch there, but cannot stay there. As such, our students and teachers gather to gently shepherd them through the school hallways, out the front entrance, and down to safety in a nearby stream.

Fall hasn't truly begun until the declaration of Color Wars! The main event of Spirit Week, the peaceful (but occasionally deafening) Color Wars pit Upper School grade against grade in a gauntlet of zany competitions to find out which class has the right stuff. Middle and Lower School students join the fun with our annual Friday morning pep rally and All-School Picnic.

The annual Upper School spoon game breaks up the winter doldrums by equipping each student with a spoon and a person to “spoon” (AKA catch off guard without their designated utensil in hand). Not to worry, most classrooms are “spoon free zones” so everyone can learn in peace.
