Academics
Lancaster Country Day School students, boys and girls from preschool through twelfth grade, study under one roof in a sequential, carefully designed, challenging curriculum. Our academic standards – above and beyond any government guidelines – are set to maximize the development of each student’s critical and creative thinking abilities.
Differentiated instruction in the Lower School helps foster thorough development of reading, writing, and math skills. And our rigorous college preparatory program increasingly focuses Middle and Upper School students on the development of critical thinking, disciplined work habits, and excellent writing skills.
We encourage students to become independent thinkers who can access information, make critical judgments of its validity, and synthesize dimensions of understanding. As young people explore the vast universe of ideas, we help them make connections between various disciplines: for example, understanding an historical period through an analysis of its scientific advances, philosophy, literature, art, and music.
Our entire educational program strikes a balance between developing skills within each discipline, and understanding the larger issues in those fields. Teaching our students about cell structure and human physiology isn’t enough; we make those lessons dynamic and practical by showing how it relates to ethics and social policy.
