Philosophy

Lancaster Country Day School has a rich tradition in athletics with interscholastic programs spanning grades 6-12. Combined with an excellent physical education program that mixes movement training with skill development and having fun, LCDS students develop a love for exercise, play and organized games. This establishes a sound foundation for those youngsters who wish to move into competitive athletics. We encourage all of our students to try to find a niche' in our athletic offerings, allowing them to discover the thrill of competition and the joy of working together as a team. In addition, LCDS students can benefit greatly from the developmental aspects of athletic training and competition, while continuing to improve their physical health and play games, an important part of adolescences.

Athletics represents a means by which each young person can explore the boundaries of their mental and physical endurance and strength. They discover that these boundaries or limits are not insurmountable and, in fact, with desire, dedication and hard work they can overcome virtually anything. The playing fields and courts offer young men and women a chance to discover that competition is not about beating your opponent but rather, he/she acts as a foil, providing a significant test for the athlete to determine how much they have progressed as a team and individually. To be truly successful in athletics, young men and women must learn important life skills such as; commitment sportsmanship, self-sacrifice, and teamwork, which includes supporting one another, working hard for a common goal, and the joy that comes with those achievements.

Our coaching staff is committed to developing each athlete by first teaching the skills, proper methodology, and technology, where appropriate. Then, teaching game strategies and helping them to learn to think quickly on their own two feet. We strive to find a role for every committed team member so that all can share in the realization of the teams goals and see themselves develop to their fullest, a true success.
