Post Graduate Gap Year Program

LCDS has created a gap year Post Graduate Program, a PG program, for College Bound seniors who are hoping to attend selective colleges.

Some Background about PG Programs

PG programs have traditionally been employed by top private schools as a service for graduating public school seniors who would like an extra boost to get into the precise college of their choice. It might be someone applying to the Penn State honors program, a top local college, or an Ivy League or "Small Ivy" college. The common motive would be the need for a few more AP courses, another year to study for the SATs or for SAT subject tests, or the chance to prepare enough to maximize college success. We have decided to increase our financial aid budget this year to make this sort of program a possibility for any especially promising area youth.

How does a PG Gap Year Program work?

PG students would have finished at their local high school. They would be fully enrolled seniors, and would have the same academic program and expectations of current LCDS students. While they have already earned a diploma, their course work is assessed, graded and presented to colleges normally. All students would be able to prepare for AP tests, and would have the opportunity to take the SATs as an LCDS "senior." Students would also have the regular services of the LCDS College Counseling office over the course of their year at the school.

Can I receive a partial or full scholarship?

We have the flexibility to provide partial to nearly full scholarships for deserving students. In the current year LCDS provided more than $2.3 million dollars in financial aid. PG students would have the same opportunity as any candidate to receive aid. Thirty percent of our students receive aid and the average grant is over $11,500. Interested applicants can apply in the same manner as any applicant to the school. To submit an inquiry online, click here. To learn how to apply for financial aid, click here.

What are the advantages of a PG Program?

A PG Year offers the opportunity to:

  • Broaden students' range of college options
  • Be better prepared for selective colleges' classes
  • Increase students' opportunity to obtain college credit through AP courses
  • Improve on the SATs
  • Re-apply to any top college choices that did not offer admission
  • Arrive at college with greater maturity and confidence
